We guarantee that only the highest quality materials are used to build our observatories. We choose our materials based on years of experience in working with timber buildings, meaning that we provide the best wood to withstand all conditions.
Every observatory is fully waterproof and our attention to detail ensures that the roofs will not sag.
This page gives all the information about what is included AS STANDARD in the construction of these observatories and about the materials used to make them.
Standard Observatory
Folding back flap. (outwards)
Rolling side
Black plastic roof tiling and ridges
Provision for electrics
Black square line guttering
Installation costs
Centrally located door
Warm room (larger sizes as stated)
The Base
Framework - 4x2 machined & treated (c24)
Top - 22mm Caberboard
The Walls
Framework - 3x2 and 2x2 machines and treated (c24)
All posts - including the horizontal run off posts 4"/90mm high quality machines & treated
Lined with - building grade waterproof membrane, a secondary line of defence, sandwiched between the frame and external cladding, leaving a 25mm cavity allowing good air flow and preventing wood sweating on contact.
External cladding - 22mm log lap.
Internal lining - 4mm far eastern ply.
One side of the observatory (usually the shorter back end) has an outwards folding flap which is 2ft deep.
The opposite end has a centrally located door 30” wide x 69” tall, fitted with a black door handle and good quality padlock brace. We advise getting a good quality padlock.
Either of the 2 long sides has the low rolling side again set at 2ft deep.
The Roof
This is set on high quality industrial grade running track and wheels, maintenance free.
The framework is constructed from light weight steel trusses, for strength and durability.
The roof is waterproof membraned and battened before being tiled, using high quality black plastic roof tiles and ridges. An excellent product, maintenance free and with a very long life expectancy. These will far outlast any roofing felt. These tiles do come in a range of colours, a textured finish is added to produce the colour and cost an extra £3.50 per tile and £2.50 per ridge
Pent Roof
You will notice that the standard roof on these observatories has a pitch. If you would prefer, a pent roof can be fitted at no extra cost, as shown rightbelow.
Warm Room
A small fully enclosed room at the front end of the observatory, with an adjoining door to the viewing area. This room has an independent ceiling. It is possible to insulate the warm room for the cost of the insulation materials and a small labour charge for fitting. Price size dependent.
A small window can be located in the internal wall or door if required. Price from £60 again depending on the size.
Each observatory is also fitted with internal locking catches for maximum security when the roof is closed. Spring catches are also added for locking the roof into place once opened.
Electrics
Connector box, up to 4 double sockets, wall light and internal twin and earth can be provided, and put in place. Underfloor conduit pipes can also be added during construction, from your pier to the con box. It would be helpful to provide a plan diagram of where these are to be located before construction.
PLEASE NOTE. ALL YOUR ELECTRICS WILL NEED CONNECTING BY A FULLY QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN.
