Your Pad / Base
Please ensure that a good concrete pad has been laid for your observatory. It needs to be square, flat, level and able to support a tonne plus of observatory. This is essential to the smooth running of your rolling roof. Slabs are a usable base for the smaller observatories but must be laid properly.
Your pier, if using one will still need a separate concrete pad of its own if slabs are used.
We recommend that you make the pad 3” bigger all round than the chosen size of observatory. The pad should be made using at least 4” of well compacted MOT grade1 Hard Core with a good 4” concrete top. If you are unable to get a local builder to lay your pad, we can offer this service if you are not located too far from Norfolk. We suggest a local builder as we do have to factor in travelling and locating local aggregate suppliers. However we can quote upon request.
It is not essential to have your pad laid before you place your order, but at least 3 weeks in advance of installation is reccommended, to allow the concrete to set thoroughly.
Please ask if you need any more advice, a good local builder should be able to do this job for you.
Please provide a photo of this job once completed if possible thank you.
Your Access
Please advise us of distance from vehicle access point to your pad, along with details of difficult access such as slopes and narrow alleys.
Although the observatories come in relatively flat pieces for transportation, when they arrive all parts are quite large and heavy. They will not go through doors or your house.
It is helpful for speeding up installation if we know what to expect when we arrive.
